- St Teresa’s Effingham is an independent Roman Catholic day and boarding school. It has a school population of 668 girls including 56 boarders, and a healthy Sixth Form.
St Teresa’s is sited in a privileged position just outside the affluent and delightful village of Effingham in leafy Surrey. St Teresa’s occupies a beautifully secluded campus of approximately 55 acres, providing security, privacy and tranquility in a safe and green environment. Visitors here will immediately understand why this region has official AONB status — truly an ‘Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty’. The extensive school grounds include large areas of playing fields and further grassland, whilst a variety of interesting architectural and sculptural features complement the main buildings at the heart of the campus. The School is centred around the original eighteenth century manor house and has evolved over the years and now proudly boasts some outstanding facilities.
A number of new facilities have been provided to meet the needs of a modern education. These include a brand new Sixth Form Centre, Equestrian Centre, Tennis Academy, a Performing Arts Centre comprising a large theatre, drama studios, music classrooms, practice rooms and recording suite. In addition, St Teresa’s boasts a swimming pool and an all-weather pitch.
There is no one size fits all at St Teresa’s; our girls are individuals and valued as such. No one is invisible, and we know who needs to be stretched and who needs extra help. This commitment to individual care underpins our whole ethos and approach to teaching each and every student within our care. A can-do attitude is encouraged at all times, and a wide range of opportunities both within and beyond the curriculum enables girls to develop and discover new abilities, interests and talents while they study towards achieving first-rate GCSEs and A levels.
In 2019 neighbouring schools St Teresa’s and Cranmore formed the Effingham Schools Trust partnership to create a diamond model school, a powerful and exciting educational proposition, delivering all the advantages of both single sex and co-education to girls and boys.
A diamond school is, quite simply, the best of both worlds, leading to an outstanding experience. It is an approach that not only elicits excellence from pupils, but also from teaching staff who are able to tailor their professional techniques to age, stage and gender. Two modern, progressive schools, Cranmore and St Teresa’s Effingham have enviable track records, delivering best practice teaching to their pupils, whilst maintaining exceptional pastoral care. Combining these skills will provide a distinctive and distinguished education.
The new partnership will allow each school to focus on its strengths whilst retaining its individuality, presenting to all pupils an extraordinarily rich variety of shared events, facilities and resources to provide a distinctive and distinguished education for pupils of all faiths and backgrounds.
The Trust’s diamond model will offer the benefits of the co-ed classroom to very young pupils, the benefits of the single sex classroom in later prep and secondary years, before finally returning to co-education Sixth Form.
